Yakang lhakhang is a privately owned monastery founded by Lama Sangdag, the sixth son of Terton Pema Lingpa. The monastery has great cultural significance as it is a repository of a wide range of spiritual treasures and other sacred objects discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa. It is located at about 20 minutes walk from Mongar town.

What to Expect

Mongar dzong is one of the newest dzongs built in 1930s but the dzong is built in the same traditional methods without using any drawings and nails. A visit gives visitors an impression of how traditional Bhutanese architecture has continued to thrive through the centuries.

  • Temperature: Approx. - 4 to 20 degree celsius
  • Weather: Best in Spring (Mar., Apr., May) and Autumn (Sep., Oct., Nov.). Rain (Jun., & Jul.) and Cold in (Dec., Jan., & Feb.)
  • Mountain roads (could be narrow and bumpy in certain places)
  • Food: Limited western food and restaurant chains in Bhutan
