Standing on a hill spur, Tashigang Dzong was built in 1659 and has many temples and serves as the administrative seat for the district as well as the home of the monk body. The Dzong commands a remarkable view over the surrounding countryside.

What to Expect

Tashigang is the largest district in the country, situated in the far east of Bhutan, on the bank of Gamri Chhu River. It is about 100 Km from Mongar and enroute is famous Kori La. Tashigang is the junction of east-west highway with road connecting to Samdrup Jongkhar and then to the Indian States of Assam. In the past Tashigang was the centre of a busy trade route with Tibet. Today, the town is used as market place for the semi nomadic people of Merak and Sakteng.

  • Temperature: Approx. - 4 to 20 degree celsius
  • Weather: Best in Spring (Mar., Apr., May) and Autumn (Sep., Oct., Nov.). Rain (Jun., & Jul.) and Cold in (Dec., Jan., & Feb.)
