Kichu Lhakhang is one of the two oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan dating back to 7th century, the other being Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang. The lhakhang complex is composed of two temples. The first temple was built by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century and in 1968, H.M. Ashi Kesang, the Queen Mother of Bhutan, built the second temple in same original pattern

What to Expect

Paro is a beautiful valley with a small town in Western Bhutan. The valley encapsulates within itself a rich culture, scenic beauty and hundreds of myths and legends. It is home to many Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries. Paro is also one of the most fertile valley in the Kingdom producing a bulk of the locally famous red rice from its terraced fields. Paro is drained by Pa Chhu, the source of which is from the snow capped Mount Jomolhari (7,314m). Bhutan’s only International Airport in also located in this beautiful valley.

  • Elevation: 3650 meters above sea level
  • Temperature: Approx. - 4 to 20 degree celsius
  • Weather: Best in Spring (Mar., Apr., May) and Autumn (Sep., Oct., Nov.)
  • Mountain roads (could be narrow and bumpy in certain places)

Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1 - Paro - Thimphu (Sightseeing)

★ Arrival at Paro Airport
★ Welcome tea
★ Drive to Thimphu
★ Walk along the last remaining Iron-Chained Bridge
★ Lunch at Thimphu
★ Visit Tashi Choe Dzong, Memorial Chorten & Kuensel Phodrang
★ Overnight in Thimphu

Day 2Day 2 - Trekking - Sangay Gang to Phajoding (Distance 4 - 5 kms, 4 -5 hours, Ascent < 1000m, 1000m descent)

★ After early morning breakfast, drive 15 minutes to Sangay Gang
★ Start the trek
★ Visit Phajoding Monastery (If time permits)
★ End of Trek, on driving down the hill we may drop by Motithang park to see Takin, the national animal of Bhutan
★ Overnight in Thimphu

We start at Sangay Gang, an area brimmed with hundreds of colourful prayer flags to bless our trek. The trek to Phajoding includes gentle slopes through thick blue pine forest. We cross a monastery, Chhokhortse Gompa (3010 m) and slowly descend slightly steep slopes towards Motithang. You will find your vehicle awaiting where your trek ends

Day 3Thimphu - Paro - Sightseeing and Shopping

★ Visit craft bazaar and 13 Arts and Craft School
★ Visit paro kichu lhakhang
★ Drive to Paro town for lunch
★ Visit National Museum and Rinpung Dzong
★ In the evening, watch Cultural Show specially performed for your group (10 pax)
★ Overnight in Paro

Day 4Taktshang Monastery Hike

★ After breakfast hike to the famous Taktshang Monastery (3,120m).
★ Hike uphill all the way to Tiger’s Nest Temple (1,000m ascent)
★ Overnight in Paro.

Day 5Departure

★ Your guide and driver will send you to the airport and bid you farewell.
